Cagli, Pesaro e Urbino, Italy

Cagli an enchanting town gathered around its grand Town Hall and the facing piazza, full of monuments and fifteenth and sixteenth century buildings. The majestic helixoidal Tower, a work of Francesco di Giorgio Martini and a remain of the ancient Fortress is, today, the base for a Contemporary Sculpture Centre. Ponte Mallio, a powerful Roman work that was restored in the Augustan age, with an archway of 26 quoins, is well worth a visit. Every year in Cagli, on the 2nd Sunday of August, there is a historical representation of the Giuoco dell’Oca with the Contest. Along the road for Cantiano, you meet the evocative Gola di Burano and can admire the so-called Ponte Grosso (Large Bridge), dating back to Roman Times with two diverging arches.
