Mole Vanvitelliana, Giovanni Da Chio, 28, Ancona, Ancona, Italy

The Lazzaretto or Mole Vanvitelliana is located in the harbour of Ancona. It is one of the best preserved of its kind. It was devised and built, between 1732 and 1743, by Italian architect Luigi Vanvitelli as a quarantine building to protect the city from the risk of contagious diseases potentially reaching the town with the ships. Later it was used also as a military hospital or as barracks. Now it is used as a showroom by the Ancona's Municipality.
